Pacific University String Project
2022 Fall Semester
The Pacific University String Project is a partnership between college students learning how to teach and school-aged students learning how to play string instruments. Through this partnership, the preparation of string teachers is improved while the number of young string players is increased, both positively affecting the quality of available educational opportunities in the community.
Students in preschool through 12th grade learn how to play string instruments, including the violin, viola, cello, and double bass, from our teachers-in-preparation and our master teacher. Students receive instruction in small and large group classes, orchestras, and/or in semi-individual and individual lessons. Each group will meet for one or two 50-minute classes each week for 10 weeks, and will enable students to progress from beginning to intermediate and advanced levels of playing. Each semester will culminate with a performance for each group.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dr. Dijana Ihas. Please CC our faculty and Student Administrative Assistant, Caitlin Burgin.
String Project will conduct our classes in-person starting in Fall 2022. Proof of vaccination and masks will be reinforced according to Pacific University’s guidelines. In case of a new surge of the virus, we will proceed with classes being taught online until further notice. To ensure the quality of instruction, all String Project classes will be taught once a week by professional string teachers and the second class of the week by our student teachers teaching under the close supervision of professional teachers. Our semester will be 10 weeks long. The registration deadline is August 26th, 2022.
